Simple

One major reason for me getting out of designing screen or print content for clients back in the days was due to the fact that my designs were considered too clean and simple, too much white space I was told, add this, this and this and add some this there, there and there, put this here and everywhere. Cluttering a design just because we can was just not my forte, at least for the clients I was working with at the time. It seemed like every project I took on came with the idea of "clutter design", something I just could not bring myself to doing.

I know, I get it, give the client what they want, sure, the client is not a designer either and in many cases, completely clueless about the concept or process of design and I am terribly reluctant to put my name on garbage. 99% of the time when you go see a doctor, you don’t get to decide how you should be treated or cured do you? So I moved on to teaching people how to do this stuff on their own using tools for screen and print design, a far better experience I thoroughly enjoyed rather than designing for someone else.

Fast forward to present, we are now seeing simple designs quite often these days and I think this will become the norm going forward. However, the challenge of convincing clients that simple designs make sense is still prevalent at least in my area, my humble guess is that it will take sometime before the concept resonates, sooner rather than later I suppose, but it is here and now. Looks like we're coming to a full circle on this and I can't wait.
